Yes, your pet brand can text. Here’s exactly what it takes.

What pet brands ask us
before they switch.

Straight answers on eligibility, numbers, giveaways, and what we need from you — before you commit to anything.

Hemp and CBD products are allowed

Pet-based brands offering hemp-derived or CBD products in their online store can use DailyStory. How those products are positioned determines whether the brand must register as a restricted sender — the risk is being flagged for S.H.A.F.T.

Giveaways are a great list-growth play

Promotional giveaways work exceptionally well for pet brands. To avoid heavy fines or carrier blocks, the campaign must follow state and federal sweepstakes laws, TCPA regulations, and CTIA carrier guidelines.

Start on a registered 10DLC

A ten digit long code is the right call in nearly every case unless you’re sending more than 1,000 messages per second. Move to a short code later if traffic warrants it — though short codes are complicated for restricted brands.

A hemp-free giveaway path exists

You can promote the giveaway as long as all hemp and CBD content is completely absent from the text messages, the linked landing page, and the official sweepstakes rules.

Consent stays your responsibility

We don’t require proof of consent or giveaway documentation directly. If sweepstakes or promotional giveaways are offered, a clear set of rules must be publicly available. Consent is yours to collect and keep.

Bring your existing list

Your existing opted-in SMS recipients can be migrated and imported into the DailyStory platform — no restarting your list from zero on day one.

Campaign cost

What two campaigns a month to 20,000 contacts actually costs.

SMS cost includes multiple factors: total number of characters, type of campaign, whether the message includes images, and total active contacts. The example alongside shows how the math works for a typical promotional send.

  • ✓ Longer messages split into multiple segments — each segment bills
  • ✓ Images (MMS) and active contact count both affect the rate
  • ✓ One campaign a month halves the credit total; four doubles it
  • ✓ Full detail lives in our text message costs article and pricing page
Worked example · 20,000 contacts
Message · 180 characters “A 180 character message counts as 2 segments at $0.0325 per segment.”
Send frequency · twice a month “20,000 contacts × 2 segments × 2 campaigns per month.”
Total · 80,000 SMS credits/mo “Example only — see the public pricing page for current rates and tiers.”
Fees & approval

Registration fees, carrier fees, and how long approval takes.

Approval depends largely on how the brand is positioned. If hemp-derived or CBD products are at the forefront of the store, the brand will be flagged as restricted — and it can take up to 10 business days to complete that registration.

  • ✓ Restricted brands: $1,000 minimum — $500 to submit, $500 once approved
  • ✓ Not flagged as restricted: the normal $100 registration fee applies
  • ✓ Either way, a $20 per-month 10DLC campaign fee is ongoing
  • ✓ Store positioning is the biggest lever on both cost and timeline
Two registration paths
Flagged SHAFT / restricted · $1,000 min “$500 to submit the registration, $500 once approved. Up to 10 business days.”
Not restricted · $100 registration “The normal registration fee applies and carrier review moves faster.”
Ongoing · $20 per month “The 10DLC campaign fee applies to restricted and standard brands alike.”
Numbers & routing

10DLC, short code, or toll-free? Start with the 10DLC.

A ten digit long code is recommended for nearly all cases unless you’re sending more than 1,000 messages per second. We always recommend starting on a 10DLC and considering a move to a short code if the traffic warrants it.

  • ✓ 10DLC covers nearly every pet brand’s real send volume
  • ✓ Short codes only make sense above 1,000 messages/second
  • ✓ Obtaining a short code for a restricted brand is complicated
  • ✓ Migrate your existing opted-in list onto the new number
Recommended setup
10DLC · registered “Recommended for nearly all cases. Start here, scale later.”
Short code · above 1,000 msg/sec “Only worth it if the traffic warrants it — and complicated for restricted brands.”
List migration · supported “Existing opted-in SMS recipients imported into DailyStory.”

Three rulebooks every
giveaway has to satisfy.

Promotional giveaways are a fantastic strategy for pet brands to grow an SMS list. But to avoid heavy fines or carrier blocks, your campaign must follow all three sets of rules below — this is the part we help brands get right before the first send.

State & federal sweepstakes laws

Your promotional giveaway must comply with the sweepstakes laws that apply where you’re running it — including a clear, publicly available set of official rules.

TCPA regulations

Consent is your responsibility. Entry mechanics, disclosures, and opt-out handling all have to hold up under TCPA — we don’t collect consent documentation on your behalf.

CTIA carrier guidelines

Carriers publish their own requirements for promotional giveaways and sweepstakes messaging. Following them is what keeps your traffic delivering instead of blocked.
